Hello All,

I bought a Dewalt 849 and I was trying to get water etch marks and fine scatches off. I used an orange lake country pad with SSR 2.5 since I am new with the machine. I did 2' X 2' areas breaking down polish at 1500 RPM for about 5 minutes using up and down, and back and forth movement and no pressure. I followed up with SSR 1 with a grey pad and then polish with blue. Now, I have to say it looks great, but the etch marks are still there when looked a certain angles? My question would be what product next, should there be some pressure, increase the speed, or did I really break down the product? ( I did get nervous when I moved the speed to 2000 RPMs that maybe there was not enough polish on the pad ) when I apply the product on the pad it is a thin coat, maybe the size of a quarter, and then I move it on the area before I start the machine. The product seems to disapear in 30 seconds or so. Is this normal? I guess what I really want to know is if it is okay to keep running the machine on it.
I bought the car only a few months ago, so I do not know exactly where the etch marks came from. I would apprieciate any help from all in the forum.

Thanks in advance, Billy

Sounds like you are using the machine correctly and have a good understanding of the process.. to get water etchings out you need to use Professional Polish which is a chemical cleaner vs a mechanical one in the SSRs.
