light polish on gelcoat => pro polish?

looking for something to polish gelcoat in place of 3m marine finesse it glaze (typically the polishing step for a 2 step job), preferably with something cheaper, and more versatile

Thinking pro polish? or PP2?

I see some older threads mention PwC. For reference, I've used PwS on gelcoat before and if its chalky / oxidized it doesn't cut it. doesn't clean up much and kinda stains the gel a funny color (to be fair, a lot of other products do also once its that shot)

thoughts?

This will likely be with rotary & wool BTW (or at least some type of aggresive foam)

thanks...

well PwS does not react like PwC for Gel coats .. totally different formulations. We sell a ton of PwC to the marine industry as it does remove the oxidation and haze ... if you need a compound prior to the PwC for a very neglected boat or you really need to cut time, then Master Cut would be your product, but it should be followed by PwC or PwS, preferably PwC. Either of the Pro Polishes will work also but if you need to be cost and time effective, the Master Cut and PwC combo would be your best bet.

that's interesting. I've never used PwC, but I"m a big fan of PwS. I did not realize that it was so different. May have to give it a shot.

Was looking for the Pro Polish to refine the surface after compounding, or possibly as a 1 step for light oxidation prior to a dedicated lsp (in which case I think you're saying PwC is fine)

not sure what I wanna do now

Either way => pad recommendation for PwC or pro polish on gelcoat? probably with a rotary. Thanks...

the pad really depends on what you want to accomplish .. both products would be considered pad dependent and you can go from wool to a finishing pad.

Let's just say that PwC is a highly used product for some very large and expensive boats ;)

does PwC require time to haze? or can you buff off immediately like with PwS?

any preference on blue or the white PwC?

thank you

most people let it haze as it really will last a bit longer if it sets up longer .... For Gel coats and marine use, the White original is what we recommend. Gel coats are more porus and have the ability to retain color from a polish ... if you do a lot of Blue boats ..then......
