And I'm having a very hard time accepting the touch screen.

I liked not having to look at the phone to send a simple txt message now you have to stop everything you are doing look at the phone and then txt then send and go back to what you were doing.

Not to mention the extra 30 a month they charge you for the plan ... **** hackers

I got the casio commando its a waterproof smartphone and I'm actually already thinking about giving it back due to not being able to not look away and txt.

Any thoughts?

Well, it's made for "less than delicate" day-to-day activities, which is, of course, something you should consider. In fact, I would suppose that is the main reason you looked at it in the first place.

The texting might be a bit of a hassle due to the Gorilla Glass, but really, you wouldn't want a plastic screen in extreme conditions, and if you were to get a tough enough screen protector you would lose some responsiveness anyway. Just needs a little extra pressure. The lack or responsiveness is probably the biggest/most commented on "flaw" of this phone.

It can be a hotspot for up to 5 items. Have you tried that yet? (Does your plan allow it without extra cost?)

I hear call quality is a bit muffled, so that may be something to consider as well as text ability.

It has a good battery rating-something that many smartphones do not have. Some will die after an hour or so of surfing. Also, I hear it has a pedometer. You could tell your boss "Look at this!! I've walked half way to Jersey today working for you!

What were you looking for instead? Blackberry? Can you cancel your contract or do you have to switch to another phone with the same or "better" contract?

(I guess one other option to help the ruggedness would be getting a rugged protecting case, but I would surmise that it would be a bit of a hassle getting it in and out each time, if it were waterproof/resistant.)

The phone should be a tool, not a fashion accessory. If you were more productive texting with buttons rather than tapping on glass, then go back. I love these people that say deal with it. You shouldn't have to deal with it, the phone should fit how you want to use it. I love my Blackberry maybe the smartphone can do a few things better and there are more apps, but bottom line it augments my productivity so I keep it.

Bill he has to have an indestructible phone as this is probably his 20th in the last couple years .. he uses as a toy by throwing it up in the air and he doesn't always catch it , among other things .. unfortunately it is the only water proof , kill proof and fully insured and replaceable phone verizon currently has. Yes, if Pockets was a normal kid and treated the phone as a tool and only a tool that should be respected and well taken care of, he could have any phone he chooses ... hope this helps explain his frustration with the smart phone

Lauren testing the vbulletin patch for the blog

Pockets- get a stylus for your smart phone - much more consistent and easier than touch

Make sure the stylus is made for your type of screen. (capacitive vs resistive)

Have you considered getting a Bluetooth wireless keyboard for texting? I've seen listings for them under $20.

How bad do you really want it?

Technology there is always a learning curve, and always changing.
Some battle the new, learn and overcome,
Others choose revert to what they had and feel safe.

In away much like learning detailing, the lessons learned take time and effort!
How bad do you really want it?

Lots of good stuff was said here. Thanks for the feedback!

I still don't know what I'm going to do but I have 14 days to decide

Lee it would cost me more to do the hotspot but that is a cool feature

I memorized the Keyboard on the touch phone and I could not look at it and do whatever I needed to do while txting

With the touch screen there is no muscle memory and you physically have to look at the screen.

You'd be surprised Pockets. Give it a week or so and you'll be able to text easier.
I have always had flip/buttoned phones until last August when I got my first smartphone.
It took me awhile to get used to everything, but I'm very happy with it.
I have the Droid Incredible 2 with just a plain screen protector and a rubber case and I have dropped it numerous times and it's holding up fine and looks brand new.
So give it a week or so to let yourself get adjusted to it before you change your mind.

Also, it will learn words and 'predict' what you are wanting to type which I find nice, esp for longer words.
I can also talk to mine and it will type what I say.
I doubt I could ever switch back to a non-data non-smart phone now that I love mine.
But yes, the $30 is ridiculous!

Don't feel bad I just jumped on the smart phone bandwagon a few months ago. The cheap smartphones are a pain in the butt with the touch screen. The better quality SP is a little easier to use with the touch screen. It takes getting use to.
