Hi my cars paint job has been flawless (thanks to Poorboy's) and its truely never really been dirty. However, that is no longer the case! My car has been sitting for 5 days and is now completely covered in everything bad (ash, soot, fallout, and polution, and bird shit). The various news organizations report that ash is very abrasive and will mess up the finish of your car. They also say not to wash your car until next week until most or all of the fallout is gone from the air. They say ash falling on a wet care is immediate damage to the paint :( My question is how do I go about cleaning my car without F'ing up my paint job? Also I drive a European car, and I believe the paint job is softer than most :( am i screwed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I feel your pain  When you are ready to wash, Spray the car first with Spray and Wipe or Bug Squash before rinsing. This will loosen up the ash and fall out and start breaking it down. You may want to repeat this twice before you start any rubbing on the finish. IF you have a foam gun that would certainly also help as a pre-wash. You may also want to go with a little more Super Slick & Suds per gallon..say 1oz per gallon and remember to wash back and forth, no circles in case any light particles of ash remain.
Good Luck :)

I had read that ash is alkaline, so an acidic rinse could help neutralize the ash. Has anyone tried washing off ash with a vinegar rinse? Does it help? :?
