So, I bit the bullet on Friday and successfully satisfied my 'spend monkey' by shelling out $350 on cleaning stuff for my new car. I'd always been a dish washing detergent and sponge guy or the $10 premium drivethrough guy that mocks those fools that waste the whole day cleaning their car. Well, let me tell you that: now... I... am one of those fools! And, the day certainly wasn't wasted!
This is what I did:
1. Pressure sprayed the whole car
2. SSSCCW'd the whole car
3. Microfibre towel dried the whole car
4. Clayed the bonnet, front driver and passenger side fenders and front bumper
5. SSR1'd the above
6. PP'd the above
7. EX-P'd the above
8. PP'd the rims
9. WS'd the rims
10. BnB'd the tyres, twice
Then, I stepped back to take a look.
A day wasted or fruitful?
Well, there was a slightly noticeable difference but was it worth missing out on all the other fun things on my list: mow the lawn, paint the eaves, clean the gutters, wax my back?
To determine if there was any difference in the aerodynamics I took her for a spin, the roar of the supercharged V8 reminded me why I fell in love with this behemoth and it did seem to slice through the air with a little more ease...
But, it wasn't til I got home, a mere 12 nanoseconds later, that I really noticed the change.
I had been working in the shade wearing my sunglasses so all my neighbours that thought it foolish to spend a day cleaning a car wouldn't recognise me. The sun was now low in the sky and my sunglasses were off. I had now parked the car at the top of the driveway and did a 'once around' to check for any EX-P residue. It was then that I saw what the glancing light was picking up:
It was like being slapped in the face with a wet fish!
The difference was remarkable.
Front fender vs front and rear doors?
Looks like I'll be wasting a few more days and I'm happy with my hairy back, shame it's not microfibre!
