I am truly disappointed with the Food Network. IMHO it seems as though the Food Network and Hawai'i contestants are incompatible with one another. To my knowledge there have been at least three contestants born and raised in Hawai'i. Two have competed on 'Iron Chef America' and the latest, on 'The Next Food Network Star'. All three have been shot down in flames for being, of all things, "too different", "too exotic", or "too laid back". Well, surprise, surprise, Food Network Execs....being different, exotic and laid back are what being 'Hawaiian' is all about, and if those attributes are going to be held against any future Hawai'i-born contestants, then I shall have no choice but to personally BAN the network. After all, life does not revolve around the FN. There are numerous other choices out there that will satisfy my "TV Fix" in a pinch. NFL network, Military Channel, History and Military History, to name a few.
I guess for a Hawaiian contestant to win a FN competition, they must have at least one of the following three qualities:
*Over-the-top strangeness. Gina Nealy comes to mind.
*Loud-mouthed obnoxiousness. Can anyone say, "Guy Fieri" ten times fast?
*Inane babbling to cover 'dead air'. Aarti Sequiera is my overall hands-down winner in this department.
FN made a big mistake by sending Phillip "Ippy" Aiona home from 'The Next Food Network Star'. This was a chance for FN to showcase what Hawai'i food is all about. Hawai'i food, after all, is a conglomeration of all the different ethnic groups that have come to Hawai'i: Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Filipino, Portuguese....you name it, Hawai'i has it. There are already various shows which show Italian, Hispanic, Indian and American cooking. What about Hawai'i? When will Hawai'i earn a rightful spot?
Undoubtedly, there will be some forum members who will find this thread/posting to be totally inappropriate and insulting. And the moderators may respond by banning me from this forum forever. But I just had to let someone know of my frustration with the FN.
Just some Food for Thought.
