First polishing experience - Black swirled car

Hi!

My 4 years old black paint is getting pretty swirled after all these years without a complete polish. I wax it 2-3 times per summer, but now I think it really needs some serious care.

Here's the paint under 2x 250w bulbs:

Here's what I plan on buying:
- PC 7424
- 5" Backing Plate
- Lake Country 6.5" CCS pads: 1x orange, 1x white, 1x blue. 1st question: should I buy more than one? Especially for the white one?
- Tornado Buffing Towel. 2nd question: how many?
- 1x 100% Sheepskin Mitt
- 1x cheap mitt for the dirty areas
- 2x buckets (1 for soap, 1 to rinse)

Products and steps:
- Poorboy's Super Slick & Suds Wash. 3rd question: does it need to be clayed or if I can go directly to SSR2.5?
- Poorboy's SSR2.5 with white pad first. With orange pad if white isn't mild enough.
- Poorboy's SSR1 with white pad. 4th question: or should I replace SSR1 by Poorboy's Professional Polish?
- Poorboy's EX-P with white pad
- Poorboy's Natty's Paste Wax with blue pad

5th question: do I forget anything (tool, material, product)? Do you suggest replacing products or adding ones?

Thank you.

Here's a good starting point:

As to the pads, I'd say get at least a couple, as you don't want to be in the middle of a job and end up without a pad if yours catches something and tears apart of something. Also, if you are (at some point) doing an oxidized SS paint job, you will clog the pads quickly and it's nice to have a change instead of cleaning it in mid job.

As to the MF, I'd go with at least 6 to start. (I have dozens right now.)

Claying will help get the bonded contaminants off the paint. Polishing may not. You can get by without claying, but you'd be able to do a better job by claying.

It looks like your vehicle will need LOTS of work. Don't rush it. Take your time and do a panel at a time, if need be.

You may want to get an All-In-One product like PwS or PwC. Good Luck!

Wow you're definately going to have alot of work ahead of you. I did my stang a couple years ago, the paint was in slightly better condition, and it took me a full weekend.

Here's what I used and it turned out great.

- wash
- Claybar (you'd be amazed at the stuff that comes off, especially from what you can't see on a dark coloured car)
- SSR 2.5 with orange pad (repeated twice)
- SSR 2 with white pad
- SSR 1 with white pad
- Professional Polish with white pad
- 2 coats EXP with black pad
- 2 coats Natty's blue with black pad
- lots of micro fibres. I had about 10 and I had to wash them twice throughout the whole process.

The only thing I should have done is start with SSR3 which would have done a better job, with possibly less work. The SSR 2.5 got out about 98% of my swirls.

Good luck, and post some after pics to show us how it turns out.

Cheers!
